Creating Thriving Communities The Role of Not-For-Profits in a Fragmenting World

Striving or thriving?

By some metrics, this is the best time in history to be alive. Across the globe, life expectancy has increased over the past 100 years. While hunger and malnourishment remain systemic problems, levels of hunger have reduced in every part of the world, and extreme poverty has fallen from 75% of the world’s population in 1820 to 10% in 20184. Globally, the number of children in the labour force has decreased by over 100 million in the last 25 years. There is clearly still work to be done, and the data show that poverty, poor health and hunger are unequally distributed across the globe; even so, the data confirm that overall the human species is living longer and better than ever before.

This article explores how organisations can foster an authentic sense of connection and belonging among team members and the value proposition for those organisations that do.
