Recent surveys show that many Americans continue to believe in the idea that they have a “One-and-Only” soulmate. A recent YouGov poll of nearly 15,000 adults in the United States found that 60% of respondents believe in the idea that they have a one-and-only soulmate waiting for them. This confirms that the quest to find one’s soulmate plays a significant role in our modern dating culture. Leading relationship experts, however, have found that this destiny-based “soulmate model of marriage” complicates healthy relationship formation and stunts the development of mature, lifelong love.
